The APC caucus in the Senate led by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan a while ago held a meeting with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who told the caucus that he came to consult with the Senators on his ambition. The meeting took place at the Senate wing of the National Assembly.
Tinubu during the meeting announced his ambition for his 2023 presidential bid, as the incoming President noted that the Party leadership will soon be decided yet by the members of the party.
Tinubu in his words ”I told Mr President that my ambition is not blind to the extent that I will step on his toes. I just want to step into his shoes and not on his toes want to step into his shoes and not on his toes.
“I came for your counsel, partnership, and support. I believe that you can back me for my lifetime ambition”
“You have shown unusual leadership since you assume the leadership of the National Assembly. – Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to Senate President Ahmad Lawan”

“Someone ran to me, telling me that he wanted to become the party leader, I told the person that the party leadership is not decided yet”

In response to Tinubu’s statement, Senate President Ahmed Lawan said
“Your Excellency, all of us know who you are. But this is just an effort to have a face to face meeting with us”
“The APC Caucus in the Senate is the central pillar of the party. From 2019 when we were voted in, this APC caucus has remained true to the ideals of our party”
“2023 is going to be defined by what we do between now and then and what we have done between 2015 and now. That means we have to remain focused as an administration and United as a party”
“We are 70 (APC Senators) in the Senate and we are expecting two or three more by the end of the month”
“You have done so much as a governor. You were a member of this National Assembly and a member of this special legislative organization”
“Between 2019 to date, in both chambers of the National Assembly. We have almost exhausted the main focus of our legislative agenda”
The presidential aspirant immediately after the meeting with the Senate caucus paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Gbajabiamila in his office. Details of his visit were sketchy as at the time of publication.
