The church service marking the 32nd anniversary of the creation of Edo State was was turned into a scene of political theatrics on Sunday when an operative of the Department of State Services, DSS stopped the deputy governor of the state, Hon Philip Shaibu from approaching the governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki in a church.
It will be recalled that there been no love lust between Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu as the discord in their relationship came open in the house of God to the shock of worshippers and the media.
As a proof that the refusal by the operatives to allow Shaibu to greet his principal was premeditated, Governor Obaseki and his wife, Betsy and Charles Aniagwu, the representative of the Delta State governor, watched unconcerned. It was later gathered that the deputy governor was not invited for the church service that took place inside the New Festival Hall, Government House, even though he was allowed into the premises. Speaking during the service, Obaseki quoted from the Bible saying: “Dear citizens of Edo State, blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. The people He chose for his inheritance, the Earth is of the Lord and everything in it, the World and all who lives in it, for He founded it on the sea and established it on the waters. (Psalms 24 vs 1-2). “Father you are as close as the very air we breathe. May we and our beloved State continue to grow and revolve around you and the light, life, and increase fill Edo State.”
He noted that the glory of the new Edo Nation stands on the threshold of transformation in the area of infrastructure, development, innovation, and inclusiveness to build a State where humanity thrives.
