Who are the invading LGBTQ? You may ask. The acronym is used to describe lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders and queers characters in our communities. The word “gay community” is no longer sufficient to describe the communities’ diversity. The groups keep expanding and I wonder whether individuals amongst them that are married and make love to their pets are taken care of by the current definitions.
We learned from history that even before the 18th and 19th centuries, certain individuals have started to manifest homosexual tendencies. They couldn’t flourish much at the time because the state, government, church, and the medical authorities were against them.
By the advert of 19th century and with the coming of social movements, emboldened them to organize themselves against the perceived “persecution” emanating from the authorities to their deviant behaviours different from established gender role/dress.
At that time, societal’s condemnation of their deviant behaviors is normally communicated to them through public trials, exiles, medical warnings and language from the church’s pulpits.
These deviants soon find a way with the growth of public media and ideals of human rights that drew activists from all walks of life together to form their communities.
Later, certain movements in recognition and protection of gays and lesbians activities had gained much grounds, abetted by the social climate of feminisism.
From 1870, the homosexual social movements started to gain many listening ears to the different concerns and identity issues of gay men, women identified as lesbians and others identified as gender deviant or non-binary.
Societies no longer view the activities of gay lovers as immoral, sickness, or criminality.
The Western nations laws started to change to remove penal punishment for LGBTQ activities to former abominable actions. The West has finally giving in at moment as the last message from Pope Francis is that he is not in a position to judge LGBTQ members.
For me as an African, that is the crux of the matter. The West capitulated and has accepted LGBTQ as part and parcel of their societies. How then, can Africa resist what is coming?
As an observer of world events, anything acceptable to the Western world soon finds a way of gaining acceptability in our continent. It’s probably the time that we should look forward to and ask, how soon?
For now, the West is already trying to push Africa to accept LGBTQ with a persuasive approach. Many are aware of the efforts of President Obama in selling gay messages to African leaders. So far, African leaders rebuffed him, rebuking him on what gave him the effrontery to lecture Africans on marriage and what core marital values are good for African society.
The second approach could be by force. The force aspect could be by threat and sanctions and finally by force of arms disguised as protection of “persecuted” minority rights. After all, they manufactured reasons to overthrow the model regime of Gadafi of Libya.
As an African, I’m really worried. In my growing-up life, I couldn’t imagine a man being married to another man and begins to insult society further by flouting it before the public eyes.
However, in my growing up days I used to listen to folk songs from the maidens in Urhobo villages as they go about frying garri for their mum. One of the songs I still remember daily as if I heard it yesterday was a Lamentations of a housewife addressed to her husband as she returned from the market after selling her wares. The narrative song recounted the lady’s abominable experiences in the market where the women in the market had changed to men while the men in turn, turned to ladies. The returning housewife was bothered about what may have happened to her younger sibling she left behind to go do the shopping. She concluded her folk song by appealing for death to take her life than experience these abominations, further.
In my little mind at that time, I thought it was one of those mythologies we were being fed with. The mythology I thought at that time has turned into reality, and is about to overthrow our core marital values and society at large.

Many of us are not bothered about these abominations. Not, until our male child begins to come home to introduce another male as his spouse!
The African countries and Nigeria in particular should begin to plan how to resist this scourge starring the nation in the face.
Major newspapers including Wazobia Reporters of August 29, 2023, reported the Police arrests of over 100 gay suspects performing solemnization of gay marriage in Delta State. The Guardian newspaper of 19 December 2022 earlier reported Kano State Hisbah Board apprehended 19 homosexuals at a popular event centre for allegedly engaging in same-sex marriage.
One of the duties of government is the protection of the country against external aggression and internal insurrection. This is one of the invasions our constitution probably envisages.
Our country must be pragmatic now to save our society against this perculier type of invasion emanating from LGBTQ activities.
