PEGASUS REPORTERS, LAGOS | AUGUST 29, 2024

The recent nationwide protests against hunger and bad governance may have come and gone but have certainly left some hard lessons to learn by not only government officials, but also political actors across all parties.

Bauchi State stands out as a shining example where the protest did not make any visible impact largely due to the influence and silent maneuvers of one prominent son of the State.

Unknown to many people, a major stakeholder who played a prominent role in dousing tension and dissuading the people not to join in the protest, was Mallam Musa Umar Yashi, the indefatigable Executive Director of Humanitarian Affairs of the North East Development Commission NEDC who worked assiduously behind the scenes to play down the protest.

He was able to convince the patriotic and good people of Bauchi State from being misguidedly mobilized and secretly marketed for violence by the State Apparatchiks who were trying at all costs, to use the opportunity as a symbol of negativism, to boost their waning public acceptability and dwindling relevance in the society.

It can be said without any iota of doubt or contradiction, that the role played by Mallam Musa Yashi can be equated with that of a Presidential Liaison Officer for the Tinubu Administration in Bauchi.

Since the formation of APC in 2014, he has been an active member, supporter and financier of the Party and his contributions to the growth and development of the Party particularly during the last Presidential elections, did not escape attention of political watchers in the State who see him as the Face of APC in the State.

No doubt, Mallam Yashi has been one public officer who continuously sacrificed time and enormous resources rallying support for the Tinubu administration as if he was the APC Chairman in Bauchi. He actively sponsored series of political campaigns and supported various activities for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential team across the nooks and crannies of the State which resulted in the monumental victory of the APC against a formidable PDP which has the State machinery at its disposal.

It can be deduced that Mallam Yashi has a deep sense of loyalty, respect and admiration for President Tinubu as evidenced by his enthusiastic campaign support since the President declared his aspiration for the number one seat of the country. Mallam Yashi’s unwavering dedication and commitment to the Presidential team, showcase a strong bond of friendship and trust between him and the President.

To solidify his support for the President and rally round the people around the administration, Mallam Musa Yashi as the God anointed Executive Director Humanitarian Affairs of the NEDC, came up with strategic humanitarian intervention programmes anchored on the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President. The Commission was able to distribute palliative items to hundreds of thousands of people across the North East region worth billions of naira.

These interventions to a large extent, helped to cushion the effect of the hardship faced by the people especially after the withdrawal of fuel subsidy. Various Communities and groups, have benefitted immensely from relief materials including rice, spaghetti, macaroni, sugar, ground oil, clothing materials etc. His goodwill, generosity, humanitarian support and assistance knows no bounds.

Beyond the distribution of palliative items, Mal Yashi has also touched the lives of other people in numerous ways. Through skillful planning and execution, he was able to bring the humanitarian crisis in the Northeast under control with over two million Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs so far resettled at their communities and have since resumed normal life.

Infact across the region particularly in Bauchi State, the North East Development Commission NEDC, has become a permanent reference for Humanitarian doctrine at all times courtesy of the dynamic gesture of Mallam Musa Yashi, whom the refugees of the Boko Haram insurgency, have nicknamed “Mallam Musa Yashi SAVE LIFE”

More importantly, Mallam Yashi under whose portfolio the responsibility of managing the affairs of thousands of displaced persons in the zone directly fall, similarly engaged in a speedy reintegration of victims of the insurgency into society with many of the repentant Boko Haram members already re-integrated into society.

He has indeed paid his dues over the years by contributing his quota to the political, social and economic development of Bauchi State and the entire region. 2027 should be a payback time for Mallam Yashi generally regarded as a man of the people, for the people and by the people.

He remains a living legend, untainted moral-standard bearer, an embodiment of hope and peace as well as a bridge builder who will take Bauchi State to enviable heights.
