God has blessed some people with inbuilt doctrine and inexhaustible conviction to serve humanity at all times whatever level of circumstances inundate them a natural instinct which some people describe as “born to serve.”

For Mallam Musa Yashi, the Executive Director Humanitarian Affairs of the North-East Development Commission, NEDC, this is a trait that permeates his life right from childhood as those who know him, confirm this unanimous verdict about his life.

His journey of a thousand miles actually began in 1984 when he came into public limelight with his appointment as Administrative Officer in the Bauchi State Civil Service and then posted to Lagos as the State Liaison Officer. While in Lagos, he proved himself as a worthy ambassador of the State through dint of hardwork and dedication to duty leading to a rare commendation and recognition by the then Military Governor, Col Chris Garuba as the most prudent and outstanding civil servant of the year, 1988.

Since then and spanning over four decades later, Mal. Yashi dedicated his entire life to the service of his home State and indeed Nigeria, his motherland.

His significant achievement while serving at NEDC, is how he successfully tackled the humanitarian crisis in the North East region brought about by the decade-long Boko Haram insurgency. Today across the region, millions of people displaced and rendered homeless, have been successfully relocated back to their original communities and even supported with means of livelihood.

In recognition of this achievement, Mal Yashi was singled out and honoured with the Presidential Award as the Best and Outstanding Humanitarian Person of the UN Year 2022 by the Federal Government.

It is instructive to note his impressive record in public service while he worked in other places including the Dodan Barracks/Presidency, some Federal Ministries and Departments as well as the FCTA where he served as the Chief of Staff to the then Minister of FCT.

Testimonies from colleagues and friends, all paint him as a humble and dedicated public servant whose career and meritorious service found footage in every Military and Civilian Administration in Nigeria for over four decades.

In fact, for the curious mind, there must be something unique and special in Mal. Yashi that he enjoys the support and patronage of almost all administrations right from the GMB’s first tenure as Head of State. He has been appointed for one task or the other by successive administrations and has never failed or disappointed anyone.

No doubt, he always leave an indelible mark and permanent footprint in every place he works

*As Bauchi scrambles to find the rightful leader to assume the mantle of leadership and rescue the State from the shackles of poverty, misery and bad governance, the person who readily comes to mind of the people is Mal. Musa Umar Yashi, the silent achiever and consummate administrator known for his kindness, fairness and justice to all manner of people.

Besides, being grounded and polished in administrative governance, Mal. Yashi as a community leader and stakeholder in Bauchi, has been able to carry people along irrespective of political, religious and ethnic differences.

In fact, he has now come to be regarded as “the never tired caretaker of the masses.”

This rare leadership attribute has endeared him to the people who see him as the leading Messiah the State has been waiting for.

For those not familiar with him, Mal. Musa Umar Yashi is that thorough bred Nigerian whose entire life is characterized by kindness, humility, generosity and desire to change peoples’ conditions for the better.

Mal. Yashi is the darling of different socio-political groups including religious organizations which constantly receive humanitarian support and assistance. In the face of current difficulties and hardship, he is always reaching out to the people with various palliative items to help cushion the effect of the hardship not just during festive periods.

He has acquired enough and necessary skills and experience to pilot affairs of Bauchi and take it to the next level.

He is a tried and tested leader best suited to lead Bauchi State as its next leader and it is everyone’s conviction that he will make Bauchi proud and reposition it for growth and prosperity.

Nicknamed “Yashi na kowa,” meaning Yashi for everyone, he is generally regarded as a beacon of hope and champion of the masses whose emergence as the next political leader of Bauchi, will certainly bring the much-needed development and end the years of sorrow, apprehension and gloom.

Looking at his intimidating credentials, we can safely say that his career with the State and Federal Governments, has adequately prepared and groomed him for the task of governance of today for tomorrow. His closeness with the Tinubu Administration, should be an added advantage.

All he needs is the support and cooperation of his people as we march towards 2027.
