A video released on Wednesday shows Hussein Fayyad, the commander of the Beit Hanoun Battalion in the Al-Qassam Brigades, resurfacing in Gaza eight months after Israel declared him dead following an alleged assassination in northern Gaza.

In the video, which does not specify the date, Fayyad is seen meeting with citizens amid the devastation caused by Israeli bombings.

He discusses the war and the Israeli military’s failure to achieve its objectives, saying, “If the strong do not win, they are defeated; and if the weak are not defeated, they are victorious.” He emphasized that the occupation had caused destruction but failed to break Gaza, which he described as resilient, dignified, and victorious.

Israel had accused Fayyad of orchestrating several attacks on Israeli targets in May 2024, but his reappearance casts doubt on that narrative.

The development comes as the first phase of a ceasefire agreement between Palestinian resistance forces and Israel, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the US, began on Sunday, lasting 42 days with further negotiations for the second and third phases.
