PEGASUS REPORTERS, LAGOS | APRIL 27, 2025
The Pan-Africa Refugee Co-ordinating body, the African Refugees Foundation, AREF, in a media release jointly signed by the Honorary President and the Chief Executive Officer of the body, Chief (Mrs.) Opral Benson, OON, F.IoD and Olujimi Olusola III, respectively, has called on the government, corporate bodies and individuals to recommit themselves to the plight of refugees of all over Africa by supporting its Food Outreach Programme, an annual feature in the yearly celebration.
In a chat with the Publisher of PegasusReporters Online, Mallam Oyakhamoh Y. Carl-Abu’Bakar, the Chief Executive of AREF, Mr. Olujimi Olusola III, said that the need to support the annual for outreach programme has become more necessary now with the escalation of banditry and displacement of communities around the country by insurgent groups.
The AREF chief also used the opportunity to remind faith-based organisations to join hand in prayers to God to help in ameliorating the pains in the land, even as governments, corporate organisations and individuals are urged to not turn their backs on the plight of refugees in Nigeria in the four most affected states in the northern part of the country.
A detail except of the request is as published below:
On behalf of the African Refugees Foundation (AREF), we appeal for your support toward our mission of providing relief and sustainable intervention to Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons across designated places in Nigeria, specifically in 4 States.
African Refugees Foundation (AREF) is a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance and advocacy for refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
We believe that World Refugees Day, (an International Day designated by the UN to honor refugees globally,) presents a unique opportunity to raise awareness about the plight of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in various locations and mobilize support for their well-being.
This year, being the 4th in our series of Food Outreach Projects, we are targeting 5,000 people that will benefit from our series of impactful humanitarian activities, which include Community Outreach, Skills Acquisition and Food Distribution in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, and Osun States respectively.
AREF is organizing a Food Outreach Initiative to provide essential food relief to 5,000 vulnerable individuals, with an allocation of ₦2,000 per head. This is designed to alleviate food insecurity among Refugees, IDPs, and the Indigent ensuring they receive much-needed sustenance and care.
Precedents and feedback from past programs and it’s far reaching impact on the Communities that benefitted has been our source of inspiration.
In light of this, we are seeking funding support to actualize this by providing a decent meal for indigent and displaced persons at least for that day. We believe that partnering with you would not only enhance our efforts to support vulnerable communities but also demonstrate your commitment to social responsibility and humanitarian values.
