Tragedy struck again in Edo North as suspected Fulani herders brutally murdered a young farmer, simply known as Sedi on his farmland in Iyerekhu, Etsako West Local Government Area. The gruesome killing, which occurred on Wednesday, has sent shockwaves through the community, reigniting calls for urgent government intervention to end the escalating violence by criminal herdsmen in the region.

Details remain sketchy, but sources confirm that Sedi was attacked and butchered by armed herders while working on his farm. The motive behind the killing is still unclear, but this incident adds to the growing list of violent crimes attributed to rogue herders in Afemai land.

Residents describe Sedi as a hardworking young man who depended on farming for survival. His death has left his family devastated and the entire community in mourning.

Iyerekhu, like many agrarian communities in Edo North, has faced repeated attacks by armed herdsmen, leading to loss of lives, destruction of crops, and displacement of farmers. The latest killing has further heightened tensions, with locals accusing security agencies of failing to protect them.

“We are tired of burying our people,” lamented a community leader who pleaded anonymity. “Every day, our farmers go to their farms in fear. How can we survive if we can’t cultivate our land? The government must act now before more lives are lost.”

This incident raises serious questions about government’s commitment to securing rural communities in Edo State. Despite repeated outcries, attacks by armed herders continue unabated, leaving villagers helpless and frustrated.

Residents are now demanding:
– Immediate arrest and prosecution of the killers.
– Increased security presence in farming communities.
– Government intervention to regulate cattle grazing and prevent further clashes.

The murder of Sedi is not an isolated case. Edo North has recorded several killings and kidnappings linked to criminal herdsmen, yet concrete action from authorities remains elusive.

“How many more deaths will it take before the government wakes up?” asked a distraught villager. “We voted for leaders to protect us, not to abandon us to killers.”

As the community buries yet another victim, the question on everyone’s lips is: When will the government finally step in and end this bloodshed?
