The Executive Committee of Amalgamated Afemai Forum, AAF, the umbrella body for vigilante groups in Edo north has called on both federal and state governments to come to its aid in fighting the incidences of kidnapping, killing, and destruction of farmlands by vandals and marauders who have taken over Afemailand forests.
Speaking with Pegasus Reporters in a chat on Friday, the Chairman of the forum, Dr. Muhammed Mustafa Lecky, explained that this call has become a matter of urgency as Afemailand has been turned into a killing field by marauders and Fulani kidnappers.
According to Dr. Lecky: “The problem of kidnapping in Edo north has been exacerbated by the sustained neglect of the cry of our people and the total abandonment of the Benin-Auchi road which has been left desolate by successive federal and state governments for over a decade now” He appealed to both the federal and Edo state governments to immediately commence repair work on the road so that the current high traffic of commuter on the Warrake-Sobe-Benin Road now serving as an alternative to the Benin-Auchi road and the points of major kidnapping in Edo north will no longer be attractive to kidnappers.
He also recalled that a resurgence of kidnapping in Edo north recently involved the kidnapping of five along Farm Road in Igarra within a week for which one of the victims was released after an undisclosed ransom was paid to the kidnappers.
Dr. Lecky recalled also the recent killing of a hunter named Sure Abanta of Ufa area in Igarra, the headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, who was killed in the front line when he opted to join members of the local vigilante groups that were combing the forests around Igarra and neighboring communities for kidnappers.
Dr. Lecky in a condolence message to the family of the deceased and the people of Ufa and Igarra in general, pledged that the AAF will not turn its back on the fallen hero even though he was not covered by insurance policy cover for members of the vigilantes’ groups.

*The late Sure Abanta
“We’ll not turn our back on the family he left behind because he paid the supreme sacrifice in defense of our motherland”
“The AAF will look into how we can assist the family to recover from this shock even as we hope that Edo state government will understand that it is another loss too many for our people to pay in defense of our security”
