PEGASUS REPORTERS, LAGOS | OCTOBER 29, 2023
A former deputy national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George said he spoke in parables when he boasted that he will leave the country and go and live elsewhere if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wins the 2023 presidential election.
Bode George made this remark in an exclusive interview on Trust TV.
It will be recalled that the retired navy commodore has similarly boasted that he will denounce his Nigerianess if former president Muhammadu Buhari won the 2015 presidential election which was also swept by the All-Progressives Congress. Bode who fled the country after Buhari won was to quietly sneak back into Nigeria after a few months in Ghana.
Continuing with a trend reminiscent of a weak approach to dealing with the political challenges his party the PDP is facing with the ruling party which swept them out of power in 2015, Bode George, who is full of hatred for the incumbent, a Lagosian like him boasted that he will not wait a minute in Nigeria if Tinubu won the presidential election and sworn in.
He was faced with this challenge when Trust TV asked him to explain why he hadn’t left the country until now since Tinubu had not only won the election but was affirmed by the Supreme Court.
When asked: “Did you say and mean that if Bola Ahmed Tinubu wins the election, you will leave the country, or were you talking in parables?
He said, “Absolutely, I was talking in parables because I said how? And I can go and leave anywhere I want.”
Pressed further to expatiate on his parable, he went into some quixotic explanations to save face. hear him:
“Look, I put in this year, it will be my 25th year in politics, 25 years in the military, 50 years of my life. I’m getting close to 80 now. What am I looking for? But to go and live where I can take a walk without looking back and forth at who is running after me and then that I can live in peace until the almighty God would call my flight.”
