Prince Ifeanyi Joseph Amobi, the Ezeudo I and leader of the Nigerian Igbo community in Osona, Barcelona, Spain, has expressed deep sympathy for the people of Borno State and the broader North-East region of Nigeria following a devastating flood disaster.
The flood, triggered by the collapse of a dam, has displaced millions, ravaged farmlands, and worsened the humanitarian crisis in a region already struggling with the aftermath of militant insurgency.
Amobi also aligned with President Tinubu in commending the governors of Kebbi, Niger, Jigawa, Kwara, Nasarawa, and the Southwest for their proactive embrace of agricultural programs. He emphasized the importance of the Federal Government’s plan to invest in modern agricultural equipment like tractors, combine harvesters, and ploughs, which is crucial for enhancing food production and mitigating the impact of climate-induced disasters.
In response to the flooding, various entities, including the Nigerian federal government, ECOWAS, and United Nations agencies, have called for urgent humanitarian aid. Additionally, NGOs, philanthropists, and international organizations have rapidly mobilized resources. Notably, President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, and his brother, Yinka Tinubu, through their family NGO, have provided essential medical supplies and food aid to support the Borno State government in alleviating the crisis.
Prince Amobi commended these efforts, stating that such support reflects the unity of Nigerians in being their “brother’s keeper.” He also emphasized the critical need to revitalize agriculture in the North-East, a region known for its farming activities, to ensure food security as donated supplies run out.
Prince Amobi highlights that, as Borno State and other states of the Northeast region are renowned for their agrarian enterprise, that there was the urgent need boost the agricultural sector in order to accelerate the production of foods locally, which will, solidify the food bank before the donated stuffs are exhausted.
As part of the Osona, Barcelona Spain-based Nigerian community’s contribution, Prince Amobi has offered through its Nigerian holding company, Jeodia Nigeria Limited, to supply Borno State and the North-East region with heavily subsidized agricultural equipment, such as hand-held tillers and plough machines, through his partnership with European manufacturers.
He highlighted plans to collaborate with the North East Development Commission (NEDC), regional governors, and emirates to provide discounted machinery that would boost local food production. This initiative is aimed at accelerating agricultural recovery and ensuring that the region can bounce back from the flood disaster.

“The unutilized land mass in Nigeria offers the critical space needed to bring in the equipment and deploy them to various aspects of the farming process that will hasten food production”, said Prince Amobi.
