The Beko Ransom Kuti Memorial Committee has urged governments across the nation to implement those dream for which the late Dr Beko Ransom-Kuti and many other Nigeria’s civil and human right activist lived and died.

“The late Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti
In a press statement titled, Beko Ransome @ 15; Nation Still Not At Peace, the Secretary of the body, Comrade AWA Bamiji berated the governments for abandoning the masses to the vagaries of hopelessness, insecurity and lack, after over a decade of the passage of the human right activist.
It reminded the people of a popular remark by the late activist, that “the kind of people we have in power today are very ruthless, people who care less about the ordinary Citizen… (and that) we must struggle to take our rightful place” as true as it was when the activist made the remark years ago.
Speaking on the legacy he left behind the statement said “that 15th year after his death we, his class of teeming followers, bulk of which are Nigerian youths and students, are not happy at all with the security situation in Nigeria”
“He and his close colleagues in the Civil Society Organisations, like Prof Wole Soyinka, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Chief Bisi Akande, Gen. Alani Akinrinade (Rtd), Barrister Femi Falana, Chief Segun Osoba; late Chief Anthony Enahoro, Senator Abraham Adesanya, Chief Bola Ige, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Comrade Ola Oni, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, Senator Biyi Durojaiye; Barrister Aka Bashorun, SAN; Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu; Comrade Alfred Ilenre; Baba Omojola, Comrade Ayo Oladokun and several others in conjunction with us, the foot soldiers (who) fought the military Juntas to stand still for the Nation to have its democracy in 1999 but surely, 22 years after this is not Nigeria of our collective dream”.
The statement then calls on the federal and state governments to honour the activists so that succeeding generations will learn and follow in the footsteps of the living and those that have passed away among them.
“…We are calling on the federal government to honour Dr Beko Ransome-Kuti and notable others in the Nigerian Civil Society Organisations, that have left this sinful world by stemming the tide of insecurity in the land. This is the only way in which it can regain its dwindling image before the Nigerian masses”
The committee concluded by reminding the enemies of the country that “We, their ardent Supporters, will not rest on our oars until the dreams of these Heroes of Democracy are actualised”
It will be recalled that today, Wednesday, 10 February 2021, marks the 15th year anniversary of the demise of Dr Beko Ransome-Kuti.
