The act of intercourse (or copulation) can be exhausting for both parties involved. However, there have been cases where the death occurred during intercourse.
What are the major causes of death during copulation? Unfortunately not a few persons have gotten into trouble with the state over suspicion of murdering their spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend.
There are two major reasons for sudden death during sexual intercourse which are discussed here in this piece.
* Drug Abuse
One of the commonest causes of sudden death is the use of unprescribed drugs. The use of illicit drugs could lead to sudden death during intercourse. Some individuals combine strong drugs (like narcotic painkillers) with alcohol. Or combine sexual enhancers with alcohol. While some chronic drug users smoke marijuana or cocaine during the action. All in a bid for a climatic experience during copulation. But these hard drugs are only endangering their health as their reaction to the heart could be fatal.
Some sexual enhancer drugs when combined with a nitrate-containing drug could cause hypotension (low blood pressure) and death is the end result.
Taking an overdose of narcotic painkillers causes seizure; respiratory failure; and death. Narcotic painkillers are not to be consumed with alcohol because they are central nervous system depressants.
* Heart Attack
Cocaine causes heart attack, convulsions, respiratory depression, and sudden death.
Heart attack (myocardial infarction) can occur during intercourse. It occurs when there is a shortage of blood supply to the heart muscle. Risk factors are:
- Men over 45 years;
- Women over 55 years;
- People having diabetes, hypertension;
- People that smoke and use illicit drugs.
According to Dr. Alabi, “The commonest cause of death during intercourse is a patient having subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). It’s a form of stroke, where a blood vessel taking blood to the brain bursts during intercourse.”
Medical experts recommend regular exercises for both men and women to be fit and prevent problems that could arise during intercourse.
Men with erection problems and preexisting heart diseases should consult their doctor before consuming any sex-enhancing drugs. Because these drugs increase the tendency of having a heart attack.
